She joined Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church at an early age and was a member of the Missionary Society where she served as Chaplin. She was a member of the Blue Ridge Temple #67 Elks and a member of the West End Silhouettes social club. She graduated from Jefferson High School, class of 1937. She worked from home for many years as a seamstress for Levy's of Charlottesville, but her first priority was taking care of her family and home.
She is survived by her children, Willis Carter Jr., R. Lorenzo Carter, Curtis Carter and Corlis Douglas all of Charlottesville, VA; four grandsons and five great-grandsons.
A Celebration of Life was held at Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church, 105 Lankford Avenue, Charlottesville, Virginia, with the Reverend Dr. Alvin Edwards officiating. J. F. Bell Funeral Home, Charlottesville, VA.
