Carl Ray Higgs of Sanger, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018 in Denton, Texas at the age of 85. Born on January 16, 1933 in Denton County, he was the son of Olen and Lillian (Tritt) Higgs.

Carl Ray grew up in Denton and was a graduate in the Class of 1950 at Denton High School. On June 1, 1952 he married Nelva Jane Powell in Bartonville, Texas. Carl Ray was part owner and operator of the family tomato business, H & H Tomato, which ran for almost 40 years. He was a member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church where he was a faithful member for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a brother Dale Higgs and his son, Rusty Higgs. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his daughter-in-law Tammy Higgs Armstrong and husband Jack of Forestburg, two sisters Tommie Joyce Hughes of Sanger and Betty Sue Chauncey of Sanger, two brothers James Higgs of Sanger and Charles Higgs of Sanger; three grandchildren Stephanie Fancher, Kristin Meyers, and Whitney Clifton, and eight great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at Coker Funeral Home from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm on Tuesday, February 6, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Sanger. Rev. Grant Bowles and Dr. E. L. McNeal will preside over the services. Serving as pallbearers are Roger Kincaid, Gerald Buel, Dennis Jordan, Mark McNeal, Cliff Higgs, Chris Higgs, Mitch Higgs, and Jeff Higgs.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rusty Higgs Memorial Scholarship, c/o Sanger Education Foundation, P. O. Box 429, Sanger, Texas 76266.
