A pioneer of Audrain Co. He came to Missouri from Kentucky in 1836 first settled in Ralls Co., then bought property and established his farm in Audrain Co. His farm became known as Powell's Ford for the ford across the Salt River on the property. He fought in the war of 1812 and in addition to his original headstone one has been placed by the Veterans Association. The cemetery located at Powell's Ford is now overgrown and in disrepair. It is believed that the headstones of Robert and his wife Sisselia are the only two that remain in their original location, other markers have been moved by cattle or farm equipment. Some slave burials were marked by field stones along one edge of the cemetery boundary.
