Douglas Lloyd Allen (aka Douglas Foxworthy), a long-time resident of San Diego, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at home on October 24th. He was 69.

Douglas was a very creative, energetic and optimistic artist and entrepreneur. Above all, he was a dreamer. He graduated from Clairemont High School in 1966 and earned a BA degree in applied arts and sciences from San Diego State University in 1970. Shortly thereafter he used his creative prowess and business acumen to form the Shio, Bedke and Allen Advertising Agency. He excelled at writing and became a successful songwriter for well-known performers such as Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, Captain and Tennille, Andy Kim/Barry Longfellow and former members of The Byrds. Douglas wrote and co-produced numerous songs and became a successful "hit songwriter" with over 38 single and album record releases in over 32 countries with sales of over 20 million records with several gold and platinum albums to his credit. Through the years he collaboratively created several performance works including stage and screen plays. As an expert in music copyrights, he worked in the early eighties in New York City for Rowe International, where he helped procure legal rights from artists and record companies for the production of the first video jukebox.

As an entrepreneur Douglas had many creative endeavors, including business start-up ventures such as the T-Channel and his visionary dream project The Expanding Universe, a theme park with related commercial, educational and artistic enterprises. With much energy and enthusiasm he worked with Horton Plaza visionaries in the 1980's to create Horton Walk: San Diego's Walk of Fame. At the time of his passing, he served as the chief operating officer at Pacific Records in San Diego.

In his final years he found much satisfaction, joy and meaning from graciously caring for his elderly mother. Douglas is survived by his mother, Ione, two brothers, Randall (Gail) and Steven, his former wife, Dottye, and his companion, Ruth Henderson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father and namesake, Lloyd, in 2016. A man of great Christian faith, he attended services at both the Rock Church in Liberty Station and St Paul's Lutheran Church in Pacific Beach.

A memorial service is planned for January 13th at 11AM at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Pacific Beach. Doug's ashes will be scattered at sea. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, St Paul's Lutheran Church or a charity of choice.
