Richard (Dick) O. Peel passed away from this life on January 31, 2018 at the age of 82. He was born in Grand Haven on October 18, 1935 and attended St. Patrick's school. His family later moved to Spring Lake at age 10 where he attended St. Mary's Parish and later graduated from Grand Haven High School in 1953. Dick was a devoted husband and loved his wife of 58 years Elizabeth (Floto) whom he married on Sept. 12, 1959.

Together they had four sons who survive him. Chris (Gera), Rich (Mary), Rob (Cindy), and Chad (Katie) and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Tom (Diane) Peel, sisters: Dolores Heyblom, Betty Dalman, and Marcia (Bill) Braunschneider and sister-in-law, Mary Ellingboe and brother-n-law, Peter (Maryann) Floto. He was predeceased by his parents, Clyde and Virginia Peel; father and mother-in-law, Percy and Cornelia Floto; brother, Don Peel, and brothers-in-law: Tom Ellingboe, Mel Dalman, and Gil Heyblom.

Dick loved St. Mary's Church and School. He served as an Altar boy both at St. Patrick's and St. Mary's and an adult server, usher, lector, Eucharist minister, president of the pastoral council, and chaired the committee responsible for building the activity center/gathering space and gym at St. Mary's Church and school. He served for 9 years in the National Guard.

In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling with family and friends, playing tennis and having Sunday dinners with his family. In his work life he found great joy in working with his two brothers in forming Peel Brothers Trucking and growing it to become the largest Michigan based truck rental and leasing company with over 1300 trucks and 12 locations before selling the business in 1982. Dick was particularly passionate about and loved our community and was excited to play a role in its bright future. He had a hand in projects ranging from where the current Grand Haven High School stands to developments in Spring Lake ranging from Arthur Court to Mill Point Health Center and Cutler's Crossing to the recently opened Mill Point Place. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who were fortunate to know him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Monday, February 5, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Visitation will be 1-4 PM Sunday, February 4, 2018 at The VanZantwick Chapel (620 Washington Ave). Interment will take place in Spring Lake Township Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation (c/o Richard and Elizabeth Peel Family Fund) or St. Mary's School in Spring Lake.
