In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, John Spencer Mayo; daughter, Ann Coffey; brothers, Ernest and Roger; and five step children. Her survivors include sons, Michael Mayo (Dawn), Steven Mayo (Kathy), and Charles Mayo (Melissa); daughter, Brenda Mayo (Dale); son-in- law, Mike Coffey; step children, Shirley Shrader, Judy Gardner, and Johnny Mayo; brother, Glenn; sisters, Evelyn, Edna, and Jeanette grandchildren, Michael Mayo, Jr., Alisha Mayo, Melissa Nash (Howard), Hannah Mayo, Jacob Coffey, Michael Contreras, Antonio Contreras; great grandchildren, Michael Mayo III and Brederick Scott.
Betty spent most of her life as a homemaker. She enjoyed working at Mercer Continuous Care. She loved attending church at Maple View Church of Christ. Betty spent her life graciously taking care of others even when facing her own health difficulties. Her generosity was felt by family, friends, and strangers alike. Her grandchildren knew her as MawMaw, and they were her pride and joy.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Monday, February 5, 2018 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Minister Tony Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Bluefield, VA where friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Monday prior to services, from 12:00-1:00PM at the funeral home.
