She was born in Central Delicias, Cuba, a daughter of William and Isabel Allen Hymers.

She attended Potsdam Junior High School, graduated from Ponce, Puerto Rico High School and the Watertown School of Business.

She married Meryl W. Appleby on 12/21/1939 in Gouverneur. He died on 1/30/1994.

Mr. Appleby passed away on January 30, 1994.

Louise worked for WT Anderson for 25 years as a secretary and served as deputy town clerk for Gouverneur for 13 years until 1994. Louise volunteered for the Hospital Auxiliary, the Heart Fund, and was named Mother of the Year by the March of Dimes. While a member of the Presbyterian Church, she served as an elder, treasurer of Presbyterian Women, and taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Gouverneur Country Club, acting as secretary for 22 years, secretary of the Ladies league, represented Gouverneur in the Northern New York six-woman tournament for several years, and won the Ladies Club championship in 1983. She also enjoyed bowling.

She was survived by a son, Walter “Dave” Appleby of Maryland.

She was predeceased by her husband; her parents; a brother. John Hymers; and a sister, Lillian Sanford.
