Franklin Renneisen Morrison Sr went home to be with the Lord at the age of 91 on October 3, 2017 after a brief illness. Franklin died peacefully in his home, and his confidence about his eternal destiny is expressed well in a poem he authored in 2011.
THOUGHTS ABOVE
I’ve been thinking about my journey, and how it will end,
Been thinking about my journey, to see Jesus my friend,
Been thinking about my journey, to see the crystal sea,
I know that I am going there, for Jesus Christ saved me.
It’s been a long, long journey, and I know it will be soon,
It’s been a long, long journey, and I care not night or noon.
It’s been a long, long journey, and I just want to go home,
And then to spend my time with Jesus, never more to roam.
I’ve been thinking ‘bout my heaven, and who I will see there,
I’ve been thinking ‘bout my heaven, and streets of gold so rare,
I’ve been thinking ‘bout my heaven, and where I will abide,
And to see the beautiful rainbow, from the other side.
I’m looking forward now to see the ones who’ve gone before.
I’m looking forward now to see family I adore.

And be filled with righteousness from the Holy God I love.
Franklin was born to Robert John Morrison and Marion Hamilton Morrison on June 6, 1926 in Philadelphia PA. Franklin was the third of 3 children, all sons. Mr. Morrison graduated from Overbrook High School in 1943 and from Villanova University in 1975. Upon graduation from high school Mr. Morrison spent eighteen months in the United States Army during WWII, receiving an honorable discharge as a PFC in 1946. While stationed at Fort Bragg, he met his wife, Oneta Holder, and after completing his military service, they were married at Spring Hill United Methodist Church on June 29, 1946. They first resided in Philadelphia PA, during which time Franklin worked as a jeweler for Caldwell’s Jewelry Store, and in 1956 they moved to Broomall PA. After the move, Franklin began serving as a police officer with the Marple Township Police Department. He reached the rank of Detective Sergeant, and retired in 1985 after 28 years of service. In 1986, they relocated to Linden, NC, and Franklin began a second career as an engraver and trophy maker in his home-based business Sign of Distinction. After Oneta’s death in 2008, Franklin retired again and moved to Fayetteville, and in 2012, came to live with his son, Harold, in Hope Mills where he resided at the time of his death.
Franklin loved the Lord and has always been an active church member. During his time in NC he has been a member at three local churches, Liberty Baptist Church, Church of the Open Door, and since 2004 at Village Baptist Church. He is remembered for his service and leadership in the ministries of AWANA, Sunday school, senior groups like Villagers, and for generously supporting many ministries within and outside his local churches.
He is survived by two sons: LTC Franklin R Morrison Jr and his wife Cosetta of the Canary Islands, and Rev Harold Wade Morrison Sr and his wife Robin of Hope Mills NC; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Oneta Holder Morrison; a son, Philip Andrew Morrison; and two brothers, COL Robert Morrison and John Morrison.
Franklin served his Savior and family with an exemplary devotion. He was a godly father and “Granddad” to each member of his family. Psalm 92 describes him perfectly, “The righteous man will flourish like the palm tree, He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Planted in the house of the Lord, They will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still yield fruit in old age; They shall be full of sap and very green, To declare that the Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him” (Psalm 92:12-15).
Our family will miss you, Dad, but we rejoice that you have gone to your eternal reward. We “sorrow not, even as others which have no hope” (1 Thessalonians 4:13).
“Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints” (Psalm 116:15).
A memorial service will be held at Village Baptist Church, Fayetteville NC at 1:30 pm, Saturday, October 7, and the family will receive visitors from 12:30-1:30 pm prior to the service. There will also be a graveside service at Spring Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, Lillington NC at 4:00 pm. The family requests that those wishing to honor the memory of Franklin make a donation to the Village Baptist Church One Facility Refresh Campaign.
