Rachel Sarah Hubbard Bryant, 93, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2017 at her long time residence in Bellville. She was the widow of Lee Franklin Bryant of whom she shared 60 years of blissful marriage. Theirs was a true love story, Lee and Rachel met and married after a two week whirlwind romance on Christmas Eve. Rachel’s late husband Lee is a World War II Naval Veteran who served on the battleship USS Wisconsin.
Rachel was born in Blockton, Iowa on November 13, 1924 to Lester and Elsie Hubbard. At a young age, Rachel was nicknamed “Crazy Legs” for her skills and agility on her High School basketball team. Rachel later attended a Business College in Des Moines, Iowa and worked at Trans World Airlines in Kansas City. Rachel was a member of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), dairy maid and cherished homemaker. She loved to quilt, create needlework masterpieces, bird and butterfly watch, cook up a storm, and watch her favorite sport’s teams. She was thrilled to witness her favorite baseball team, the Houston Astros finally win the 2017 World Series. Rachel had a stellar personality and sense of humor, as she was always a treat for anyone who had the pleasure to be around her.
Rachel is survived by her son Ronald K. Bryant and daughter-in-law Judy M. Bryant of Bellville, daughter Nanci B. Erickson and partner Rider Erickson of Houston, daughter Lesley Hays of Bellville, and son-in-law Greg Hays of Reno, Nevada, and daughter-in-law Julie Bryant of Houston. She was blessed with 5 grandchildren, Patrick Bryant and wife Heather Bryant of Cary, Illinois, Christopher L. Bryant and wife Taelin Bryant of Brenham, Lee Wallace of Houston, Elizabeth Bryant of Austin, and Sarah J. Bryant of Bellville, and 2 great grandchildren Ayden and Austin Bryant. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Lee Franklin Bryant, son Craig S. Bryant, granddaughter Heather J. Bryant and many treasured reincarnations of “Skippy” her favorite dog. A “Celebration of Life” ceremony will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Houston. Rachel and Lee’s ashes will be placed in the same vault and will once again be together in heavenly peace and tranquility.
