Mrs. Judy Carolyn Clifton Smith, 72, of Lillington passed away Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Rex Healthcare Center in Raleigh. She was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late Paul Lincoln Clifton and Floy Leona Stephenson Clifton. Judy grew up near McGee’s Crossroads and was a graduate of Cleveland High School. In her early life, she worked for NASA and retired from Service Enterprises at Campbell University. Judy enjoyed gardening, animals, nature and feeding her hummingbirds. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and the Georgia Lee Brown Sunday School Class. Judy was a spirited, sassy woman who was loved by all.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Paul Lincoln Clifton, Jr., Earthul Clifton and a sister, Emogene Lambert.
Judy is survived by her husband James “Smitty” Lewis Smith of the home; son, Paul Bethea Smith and wife Bridget of Willow Spring, NC; 2 step-sons, Danny Smith of Lillington and Scott Smith of Fayetteville; 3 step-grandchildren; 1 step great-granddaughter; sister, Marjorie Wallace of Benson; brother, Ellis Harold Clifton of Benson.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, October 30, 2017 at Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers with Rev. Dan Deaton officiating. Burial will follow in Summerville Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Monday from 12:00 PM– 1:45 PM and other times at the home.
