Martha Pearl Monical Curtis, 84, of Urbana, Illinois, entered into eternal life on Wednesday (Oct. 12, 2016), surrounded by love at Meadowbrook Health Care Center after a brief illness.

Daughter of Walter O'Donald Monical and Ada Mary Applegate Monical, Martha was born on Sept. 3, 1932 in Rossville, Illinois and grew up in Tolono, Illinois with her three siblings.

She married George Wayne Curtis on June 15, 1958 and made their home on Staley Road, Champaign, Illinois for nearly 48 years, raising their children.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Marilena Stone; brother-in-law, John Curtis and sister-in-law, Connie Curtis.

She is survived by two children, five grandchildren; her two surviving siblings, her brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews and their children who were all beloved to Martha. Words cannot express the profound loss her passing means within our family.

Martha graduated from Unity High School in 1950, a member of Unity's first graduating class. An RN by profession, she graduated from the Julia F. Burnham School of Nursing in 1953 thanks to a scholarship provided by a family friend in Tolono.

Martha retired from Christie Clinic in 1993 after working in the General Surgery Department for over 20 years.

Martha was loving, caring and selfless. She knew how to genuinely listen with whomever she was talking and was quick to share a gentle laugh. Her early love of reading and music stayed with her throughout her life as did her devotion to faith, family and friends.

Martha was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Julie F. Burnham Alumni Association, the Champaign County Genealogical Society, the Rossville Historical and Genealogical Society, the Clay County Genealogical Society and the Tolono Historical Society.
