ELMER ROBERT ADKINS

Retired LCol E. Robert Adkins Ph.D. passed away on January 29, 2018 from pneumonia at the age of 100 years.

His children Lise Adkins, April Adkins, Alan Adkins, and Daniel Casey Adkins survive him.

His former spouse Ms. Eleanor Hattwick Adkins also survives him.

Elmer Robert Adkins was born in Salisbury, MD and left to join the Navy in 1935.

He also served in the Army, and the Air Force.

His service before the war included opening air bases in the U.S. and then overseas in Europe, North Africa, and a mission to the U.S.S.R.

He graduated Officer's Candidate School at the Harvard Business School and mainly served as a planner near London, near Paris, and in Germany.

After the war he earned his doctorate of philosophy in education at Columbia University.

He married Eleanor Preal Hattwick, a war widow with child.

His career in education included teaching at Middle Tennessee State University, Western Maryland College, American University, and Birzeit University in Ramallah in the Palestine occupied zone.

He also worked for a consortium of colleges in North Dakota.

A private family service will be held in the spring.
