Alda E. Blincow, 96 years of age, of Oxford, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege.

Alda E. (Pearson) Blincow was born June 3, 1921, in Lindon, Colorado, the second of four daughters born to Benjamin Fredrick and Margaret “Estella” (Strohmeyer) Pearson. She received her primary education at District #47 School in Harlan County, Nebraska, and then attended Mascot High School at Mascot, Nebraska, graduating with the class of 1939. She then pursued higher education at Hastings Beauty Academy, where she received her cosmetology certificate.

On December 13, 1941, she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Blincow, and the couple were blessed with five children: Gloria, Shirley, Arthur, James, and Stanley. The family made their home on a farm north of Oxford, where Alda was a devoted wife and mother and also helped Bill in raising turkeys on their turkey farm. She also owned and operated Alda’s Beauty Shop in Oxford for numerous years. In 1974, the couple moved into Oxford, where Alda was a house parent for Mid-Nebraska Individual Service until 1979. She then became the cook at the New View School until her retirement in 1989.

Alda was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities including: Sunday School Superintendent, taught youth bible school for 8 years, UMW women’s circle, and was a past board member. Alda loved her Lord, and was blessed as a gifted writer. She used these two passions to publish Sunday school materials, as well as wrote weekly devotionals for 3 newspapers. Alda enjoyed tatting, crocheting and sewing, and also loved to go fishing. In 2008, the couple were honored as Co-Grand Marshall’s for Turkey Day, and on December 13, 2016, they celebrated their 75th Wedding Anniversary. She was preceded in death by Bill on June 14, 2017.

Besides her parents and husband, Bill, she was preceded in death by her son, Arthur Alan Blincow at the age of six; daughter, Shirley Blue and her husband, Curt; sisters: Charlotte Jones and her husband, Jinx; Doris Fish and her husband, Paul; and Hazel Peterson and her husband, Marvin; brothers-in-law: Alvin Blincow and his wife, Alberta; and Mark Blincow; sisters-in-law: Junita Boe and her husband, Fred; and Nola Silvernale and her first husband, Earl Dusenberry.
