Melinda O'Kelly Simpson, 67, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, TX.

Funeral services will be 2PM Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the Trent High School Gymnasium with Rev. Beth Harrington officiating. Interment will follow at the Trent Garden of Memories directed by McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater. A family visitation will be Friday evening from 5PM to 7PM at McCoy Funeral Home, 401 East Third St., Sweetwater, TX 79556.

Melinda was born October 29, 1950 in Merkel, TX to Patsy Cox O'Kelly and James Othell O'Kelly. She attended Trent Schools from 1st thru 12th grade.

Melinda married her husband of 50 years on March 10, 1967 in Altus, OK. They have two children; Melissa Leigh Simpson Jones and Christopher Ted Simpson and wife Cindy. They also raised two foster sons; Albert Booker and Jeff Sells.

Melinda worked as a Florist in Merkel at Ann's before becoming a Special ED Teacher's Aide and then the Librarian at Trent Schools for more than 20 years. She helped direct U.I.L. One Act Plays for many years at THS. Melinda retired from Trent Schools in December 2016.

Melinda was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She enjoyed watching old movies, HGTV, and traveling to see her Kids and grandkids. She was a voracious reader with a bit of a book addiction. She loved color, which was a part of he personality that shone thru her jewelry, clothes, shoes, crafts, and watch collection. Melinda was witty, funny, sweet, and well-read.

She attended Cisco Junior College in the 90's and enjoyed taking those classes. Melinda was member of the Trent United Methodist Church for her whole life. She was active in the church and served on several committees and boards for the church throughout the years. Melinda will be remembered for her sweet, calm, peaceful nature, her witty since of humor, her addiction to her family, her friendship to many, and her grandkids, favorite desserts (sugar cookies and cherry-oh pie).

Melinda was preceded in death by her grandmother, Sarah ( Mama Ruth) Cox and her father Othell O'Kelly.

She is survived by her mother Patsy Ruth Cox O'Kelly of Trent, TX; her husband Ted L. Simpson of Trent, TX; children: Melissa Simpson Jones of Anna, TX, Chris Simpson ( wife Cindy) of Monahans, TX; brother: Owen O'Kelly ( wife Kay) of Trent, TX; grandchildren: Brittaini Jones, Jordan Jones, Jennifer Sandoval (Chris), Steven Simpson (Tasia), Shelby Valdez, Justin Fann (Devon), Kaitlyn Simpson, Madilyn Simpson; great-grandchildren: Owen Mullins, Jaxon Fann, Jadon and Cloe Sandoval, Patricia and Cassius Simpson.

Pallbearers will be Steven Simpson, Jordan Jones, Terry Galindo, Devon Fann, Clay Cox, Warren Dozier, Phil Boone, Chad Sipe.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lloyd Williams, Billy Williams, Orville Patterson, Greg Rains, Jerry Frank Patterson, Lee Hunt.
