ELKHART- Ernest E. Wood, Jr., 78, of Elkhart, passed away Monday January 29, 2018 at the Elkhart Hospice House. He was born October 18, 1939 in Lebanon, Indiana to the later Ernest & Myrtle (Prouty) Wood, Sr.
Surviving are three sons, Anthony (Lauri) Wood of Folsom, CA, Andrew Wood, Anson (Marla) Wood both of Elkhart; 2 grandchildren, Alex & Eli Wood; 1 sister, Lauretta Jamesen of Elkhart; a sister-in-law, Jewel Wood of Tippecanoe County, IN and his former wife, Sandra Wood of Elkhart. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Wood.
Ernest served in the Marine Corps reserves for several years. He enjoyed fishing, was an avid Chicago Cubs fan but most of all he enjoyed being a dad.
He retired from Delivery Concepts in 2009.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Funeral services for Ernest will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday Feb. 2, 2018 at the funeral home. Pastor Tom DeFries from St. Paul’s United Methodist Church will preside and burial will follow in Olive (West) Cemetery where military honors will be rendered by the USMC Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
