Mr. Grady “Sonny” Abner Smith, Jr., age 75, of Bremen passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018.

Mr. Smith was born in Douglasville, Georgia, on November 14, 1942. He was the son of the late Grady Abner Smith, Sr. and the late Annie Rainwater Smith. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a retired Lieutenant with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one step-son, Tony Bridges, Jr.; and two brothers, Joel Smith and Charles Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Simpkins Smith of Bremen; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kip and Blu Wilson, and Stacy and Thomas Puckett all of Winston, and Brandi and Luke Debaufer of Crawfordville, FL; two step-daughters and sons-in-law, Terry and Todd Atkins, and Kerri Jo and Jake Jones all of Bremen; one sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Mike Wellborn of Carrollton; thirteen grandchildren, Seirra Cloud, D.J. Cloud, Kristina Smith, Kaitlyn Puckett, Dustin Wilson, Clayton Wilson, Lexi Atkins, Logan Atkins, Ellie Grace Atkins, Tony Atkins, Maddox Jones, Nevaeh Jones and Shine Jones; two great grandchildren, Kaidan Aaron and Karson Cloud; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. from Westview Baptist Church in Tallapoosa with Rev. Alton Stamey officiating. Music will be rendered by Lexi Atkins.

Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Bremen with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Todd Atkins, Logan Atkins, Blu Wilson, Dustin Wilson, Clayton Wilson, Jake Jones, Mike Wellborn, Chuck Smith and Thomas Puckett.

Members of the law enforcement community will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sonny’s name may be made to: Haralson County Sheriff’s Office Crimes Against Children Fund, P.O. Box 309, Buchanan, GA 30113.
