Jesse Clark
May 7, 1941 - January 12, 2018

Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend

Jesse Clark will always be remembered for his natural ability to connect with others. He had a unique way of igniting laughter in a room; he had a passion for stimulating conversation and for sharing his vast knowledge and insight. Most predominate of all, Jesse connected in a special way with so many through his kind and gentle presence.

Jesse Clark was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on May 7, 1941 and came into this world from humble beginnings as the third of six children born to Maybelle and Luther Clark, parents that valued and exemplified a strong work ethic, integrity and faith.

After graduating from Washington High School, Jesse worked as an X-ray technician at McKennan Hospital and attended college for a year in Sioux Falls before enlisting in the US Navy. During his service in the Navy, Jesse became an operating room technician and ultimately taught OR tech school.

He married Catherine Johnson February 1, 1964 and they had one child, Natalie Rene. Jesse and Catherine divorced in 1971.

On February 11, 1978 Jesse married Jayne Elliott, a marriage that lasted through the rest of his life.

Throughout his lifetime Jesse held many positions in the medical field some of which include cardiac perfusionist at UC San Francisco Moffitt Hospital and operating room supervisor at Cedars Sinai and Ross Loos Hospitals in Los Angeles.

In 1984, Jesse took a leap of faith and transitioned to the prosthetic sales industry. He owned and operated a successful distributorship for DePuy Orthopedics where he mentored others who are thriving in the industry today. Ultimately, Jesse transitioned from hip and knee prosthetics to spine sales and worked alongside prominent spine surgeons in San Diego for over a decade before retiring in 2016.

He had a passion for many things in life (birdwatching, world history, boating and navigation, fishing, music, art and photography) and was a lifelong learner. He also loved to sing and often burst into song…his melodic voice brought a smile to those who heard him sing.

Jesse loved to be with people and had a vibrant social life with his second family of friends who congregated at Liberty Tobacco and the Butcher Shop.

“See you again on another fine day”

- Jesse Clark
Jesse was a loving husband to Jayne and a family man who was affectionately called Buddy by his eldest grandson and Uncle Juice by some of his nephews and nieces. He was a bright light and presence of strength and wisdom in the lives of his family that will remain forever in our hearts.

Jesse is survived by his wife Jayne, his daughter Natalie and son-in-law Anthony, his grandchildren; Anthony, his namesake Jesse, granddaughter Brianna, great-granddaughter Kaya and great-grandson Bodhi, his siblings Annie, James (Diane), Sandra and Douglas and a host of nieces and nephews.

He loved and was loved beyond measure and was an incredible bigger than life presence whose kindness will be forever etched in the memory of all of those whose lives he touched.
