Gregory Austin Roberts, age 55 years young, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, with his wife and son by his side. Greg had been battling cancer for over a year, and he is thankfully no longer in any pain.
From his birth on April 13, 1962, in Louisiana, to his passing last Wednesday, Greg had lived in many different places; but Alaska had become his home. Greg had lived in Alaska since 1972, and made countless friends and memories along the way. Although Greg was a 20-plus year FAA employee and loved his job, he would've been the first person to tell you he'd have rather been fishing.
Greg was a big teddy bear, in regards to not only his size and facial hair, but also his unequivocal kindness and big heart. He had several close friends that had become family, and his family was everything to him. Greg had the quintessential "give you the shirt off his back" mentality towards those he cared about, and his kindheartedness made him extremely approachable to all. He rarely spoke ill of anyone, and his many down-to-earth qualities were extremely palpable by those who knew him. He was incredibly reliable, and you could always count on him.
Greg loved spending time with his soul mate and wife of 30 years, and was rarely without her by his side. He also loved his son, and frequently expressed how proud he was of him. Although Greg was taken far too soon, he had already managed to make an impressionable, life-long impact on so many other people's lives. Greg will leave an unfillable void in many people's hearts and lives, but he is no longer in pain and is truly in a better place now, where he can simply rest in peace.
Left to honor Greg, and to remember the countless memories of him are his wife, Luci; son, Austin; stepson, Kyle; father, Glen; brother, Garrett; sisters, Selena and Stacy; siblings-in-law, Ron and Brenda, Jackie and Frank, Faye, Kim, and Brian; close friends. Tim West and family; the entire Boedigheimer family; Bill, Tracy and many other close friends, cousins, nephews and nieces, etc.
Greg was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra; siblings-in-law, Sandy and Bob; and his close friend, Todd.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Greg's name to the American Cancer Society at www.donate3.cancer.org. Published in Anchorage Daily News from Jan. 31 to Feb. 1, 2018
