After a brief time working in San Francisco, California, she followed her sister, Jacqueline Maureen O’Brien (m. Hester Milligan) to Houston in late 1956, where she met and married Gilbert Lawrence Branda (7 Dec 1920-7 May 1989) on 3 May 1958. She was the mother of four. The marriage lasted until 14 Jul 1978.
Eileen became a catechism teacher for 9-year-olds, teaching for several years (but never her own children). She loved music and played the piano for many years. At one point, she briefly played with a local orchestra in New York. In later years, she played to keep arthritis at bay but eventually contented herself with listening to music (classical, big band, movie musicals).
She worked in many different capacities during her 50 years as a nurse: corporate (temp) nursing, private duty, hospital and clinic, home health care, and office nurse. She was also the “neighborhood nurse,” providing injections and advice for various neighbors. She retired from nursing at age 70 but kept active with senior exercise classes, art classes, knitting/crocheting, and travel.
A memorial for family and friends will be held on Saturday, 17 February 2018.
