Gene Tunney White age 89 of Hillsboro passed away Thursday February 1, 2018 at his residence. He was born on January 30, 1929 in Hillsboro the son of the late Noble White and Ruth (Carr) Minter. Mr. White was the owner and operator of Cave Lake Park for over forty years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was a life member of the Hillsboro VFW Post 9094 and a life member of the American Legion Post #568. Mr. White proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He is survived by five children, Teri (Scott) Gordon of Smithfield, Virginia, Alison (Chris) Hurtt of Wilmington, Katie (Jamey) Ross of Hillsboro, Michael (Kathy Williamson) White of Hillsboro and John Andy (Salma) White of Fairview Heights, Illinois; fifteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol White on October 7, 2015 and a twin brother, Jack White. There will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Father Mike Paraniuk will be the celebrant. Burial, with military honors presented by the Highland County Honor Guard, will follow in the Good Hope Cemetery.
