Jeff graduated from Hobart (Indiana) High School and was swore into the United States Marine Corps on March 9, 1964. Jeff was a proud Marine, serving as an Infantry Weapons Repairman and in the Vietnam War until his discharge on April 12, 1968. He married the love of his life, Barbara Janice McNicol in July of 1968 and she preceded him in death on October 11, 1999 after her courageous battle with breast cancer.
Jeff studied fire science at Ivy Tech in Gary, Indiana and served as a firefighter and paramedic with the Hobart Fire Department. He later was employed with U.S. Steel in Gary, Indiana and Walbridge Coatings - MSC in Walbridge, Ohio before retirement in 2006.
Most of his hobbies centered around being a Marine. He also had a great love for music and movies, smoking cigars and making people laugh. Jeff found his greatest joy in spending time with his family, friends and his dogs.
Left to cherish his memory are his children; son, Michael Johnson; daughter, Jamie Johnson; and son, Thomas Johnson (Gin); brothers, John H. Johnson, Jr. (Laurel) and James Johnson (Sandra); nieces, Robin Johnson, Tracy Johnson (Paul Coppola), Cary Johnson (Craig Schiess) and Kelly Johnson (Steve McDonald); nephews, John H. Johnson III (Amy), Scott Johnson (Heidi), Jeff Johnson (Becky) and David Johnson (Mary); and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved wife, Jeff was also preceded in death by his mother, Alma in 1972; father, John Sr. in 1994; his son's mother-in-law, Brenda Morris in 2013; dear family friends, Michael Carey and Lonnie Brooks; and his beloved dogs.
Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m., Friday, February 2, 2018 at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.), Toledo, OH 43623 concluded with a memorial service and United States Marine Corps Honors at 7:00 p.m.
