Larry Brock McKinney, age 69, of Beckley, WV, gained his Heavenly body on January 29, 2018. Born in Beckley, WV on September 11, 1948, he was the son of the late Elmer McKinney (1907-Deceased) and Ardeth Royce-McKinney-Varner (1927-Deceased).
He is survived by his loving wife, Janet Faye Murphy-McKinney (B. 1949) whom he married on January 6, 1969 in Sophia, Raleigh County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Raleigh County, WV, 1969, Page 228, Application Date: Janaury 2, 1969); son, Patrick McKinney and wife, Debbie McKinney; daughter, Krista McKinney-Piercy and husband, Jerry Piercy; three grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Janzen McKinney, Carson McKinney and Haley Piercy; mother-in-law, Juanita V. Gentry-Murphy; sister, Lorraine McKinney of St. Cloud, FL; and a host of family and many friends.
Larry was a Marine Corp Veteran having served with the 3rd Marine Corp Recon Battalion in Vietnam where he was the recipient of many medals for his courage and bravery. He loved his Recon buddies who have remained close throughout the years. Once a Marine, always a Marine. Semper Fi.
He worked in the mines for many years at Elk Run Coal Company and Cline Resources before opening Brock Mining, where his employees always came first.
A visitation will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM in the Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home. Services will be Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 12:30 PM, in the Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home. A Military graveside service will follow on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Sunset Memorial Park.
