David Claude Honeycutt, age 85 of 201 Barnes Lane, Stony Point, passed away Tuesday February 1, 2011 at Iredell Memorial Hospital, after an extended illness. He was born May 13, 1925 in Rowan County to the late Samuel N. Honeycutt and Amanda Stine Honeycutt. Mr. Honeycutt was a WWII veteran and was wounded in action. He was the custodian at Stony Point School. He was also a member of Unity Christian Church in Stony Point.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Claude Honeycutt and Charlie Honeycutt; four sisters; Blanche Honeycutt, Bessie Barnes, Willie Chapman and Faye Honeycutt.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Christine Sherrill Honeycutt of the home; one son, Michael Honeycutt and wife Judy of Troutman; one daughter, Sherry Hammer of Stony Point; four grandchildren, Rev. Scott Hammer of Stony Point, Shawn Hammer of Bethlehem, Mika Overcash of Troutman and Krista Honeycutt also of Troutman; and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00pm Friday February 4, 2011 at Unity Christian Church. Rev. Scott Hammer will officiate. Military rites will be provided by VFW Hiddenite Post #10000 and Taylorsville Post #5466. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:30pm Friday prior to the services at Unity Christian Church.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Iredell County 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625, Stony Point United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 120 Stony Point, NC 28678 or the Unity Christian Church 795 Old Charlotte Rd., Taylorsville, NC 28681.
