Roy J. Harper, 93, Swayzee, died at 5:03 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, in the Century Villa Healthcare Center, Greentown. He was born in Sims, IN on Dec. 1, 1924, to the late James Robert and Ina Elizabeth (Rust) Harper and was a graduate of Swayzee High School. Roy married Mildred E. Adkins on March 16, 1947. She preceded him in death on Dec. 4, 2013.

Roy retired from Delco after 46 years. He served in the Army Air Core from 1945 to 1948 in the Airforce 442nd Troop Carrier Group, 306 Squadron, Fixed Glider Planes. When he was able, Roy enjoyed attending reunions for the 442nd at the following locations: Colorado, S. Carolina, N. Carolina, and Missouri. Roy was a member of the Sims Wesleyan Church. He enjoyed watching TV and loved football, baseball and basketball, especially IU and Purdue and he loved Bob Knight.
Roy’s dad was “Pete,” his brother, Gerald was “Pete” and Roy was “Pete”… Pete, Pete, and Repeat. He was also nicknamed “Dunk.”

Survivors include his daughters, Evelyn (Jim) Spencer, Swayzee and Karen (Jerry) Zeiher, Greentown; grandchildren, Misty Shock, Swayzee, David (Jayme) Henchon, Carmel, Christy (Brett) Lebo, Noblesville, and Brian (Courtney) Henchon, Lafayette; great-grandchildren, Allison Shock, Kyle Henchon, Josie Whitton, Cali Whitton, Brady Henchon, Drew Henchon, Jared Henchon, and Luke Henchon, Hadley Rose Henchon; great-great grandchild, Everleigh Quinn Evans,

In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Harper; sister, Lydia Rumple; and great-granddaughter, Harper Ann Henchon.

The family will receive visitors from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at the Sims Wesleyan Church, 309 N. Main St., Sims. A service to celebrate Roy’s life will begin at 2 p.m. immediately following visitation with Pastor Brian Williams officiating. Burial will be in Thrailkill Cemetery, Swayzee.
Arrangements are entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Rybolt Chapel, 314 North Washington St., Swayzee, IN.
