Frances graduated from Lackey High School, and received her nursing degree in 1949 from Providence Hospital in Washington D.C. She was a member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish. She spent years as a Hospice volunteer, when the organization was taking root in southern Maryland. In 1968, Frances became co-owner of Indian Head Hardware with her husband, John.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Gale Welch; three sisters, Diann Dolores Good, Joann Wadase, and Peggy O’Brian; two brothers, Peter Thomas Reklis and Joe Bolger; and one infant son, Thomas Matthew Welch.
Frances is survived by seven daughters, Gail (David) Cockerham, Mary Kevin Welch, Denise (Ronald) Reynolds, Jill (Thomas) Grinder, Ann (Charles) Hill, Jody (Stephen) Mixon, and Shari (Peter) Miller; three sons, John (Wanda) Welch, Timothy (Lisa) Welch, Shane (Jayme) Welch; two sisters, Julie Morgan and Christine Hamrick; 20 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services and Catholic Mass held at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Indian Head, MD. Interment in St. Charles Cemetery, Glymont, MD.
