ROBERT LOUIS COLBERT was born April 6, 1925, in New Castle, the son of the late John E. Colbert and Helen Rinehart Colbert Lodge. Bob grew up in New Castle and following high school, during WWII, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from January 1943 to March 1946, with foreign service between November 1943 and December 1945. He served on the USS Hornet in the Pacific Theater. The Hornet, an Essex Class aircraft carrier, supported nearly every amphibious landing in the Pacific, including Tinian, Saipan, Guam, Iwo Jima, Leyte, Okinawa and the aerial assaults on Tokyo, and was under direct attack 59 times. Aircraft from the Hornet destroyed 1,410 enemy aircraft as well as an aircraft carried and many tankers. Bob received 10 Bronze Stars for his service and the Presidential Unit Citation.

Following his discharge from the Navy Bob married Jean T. Turner in 1950 and the couple had two children. Jean preceded him in death on April 29, 2008. Bob's was an electrician by trade and started his civilian work career in 1949 at the Bossert Company Plant and later moved on to the Rockwell International Axle Plant, both in New Castle PA. In 1967 he was hired as the electrician at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Youth Development Center in New Castle and quickly was promoted to the Maintenance Superintendents position. He was also a State Fire Marshall. In 1975 Bob was awarded the Governors Meritorious Citation for the development of a major cost reduction program. In the community Bob was a member of the Sportsman's Club and American Legion 343 and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping.

Survivors include one son, Robert D. Colbert and wife Patricia of New Castle; one daughter, Stacy L. Brown and husband David of New Castle; two sisters, Helen Book of New Castle and Betty Lawrence of Mineral Ridge, Ohio; and two twin granddaughters, Tara and Grace Colbert. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his twin brother, William Colbert, and his brother John "Pal" Colbert.
