Obituary

After a sudden and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, Jimmy (Jim) Weldon Hamilton walked into heaven on January 28, 2018 surrounded by his family.
Jim was born on January 31, 1948 in Coleman, Texas to James Weldon and Imogene Hamilton. He graduated from Lake View High School in 1966 where he excelled in basketball and track. After high school, he attended and graduated from Angelo State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and minor in English where he also played basketball and ran track. Jim became a member of Baptist Temple Church, now Lifepoint Baptist Church, in 1974 where he taught Sunday School and faithfully served as a deacon for over 40 years.
On August 29, 1969, Jim married Maxine Dupre. Together, they soon began a family while remaining in San Angelo where Jim worked at Gandy's Dairy.
In 1971, he began a proud 31 year career at Goodyear Proving Grounds. After retiring from Goodyear, he spent 4 years conducting background checks for US Investigative Services. For the last 6 years he worked as a bus driver for SAISD, loving the special needs children.
Throughout Jim's life, he enjoyed the great outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. At a very early age he became involved with the Boy Scouts and continued for many years, mentoring numerous young men. He loved spending time with family and serving others through the church. His acts of service, both known and unknown, impacted countless lives throughout his life. From mowing hundreds of yards to buying thousands of Little Debbie "goodies" for junior church kids to cleaning church facilities, he was always dependable. Jim was a humble servant who never desired the applause of man. Anyone who knows Jim knows he was received into Heaven hearing the words, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant."
Jim was preceded in death by his parents James Weldon Hamilton and Imogene Nixon Hamilton Gerth.
Jim is survived by his wife, Maxine, daughter Cinnamon Carter and husband Mike, daughter Ginger Riggins and husband Mark, and son Aaron Hamilton. Grandchildren Lane Carter and wife Sheriden, Luke Carter and fiancé Emily Pope, Reagen Riggins, Kennedy Riggins, Lincoln Riggins, Madison Riggins and granddog Dirk.
Visitation for Jim will be Wednesday, January 31, 2018, from 5-7 PM, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM, February 1, 2018, at Lifepoint Baptist Church with burial following in Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank Dr. James Melott and Dr. Raj Cheruku along with their staff and nurses, Hospice of San Angelo especially Christina, Laura, Candy, Keri, Amber, Becky, and Ahmad. Also to Visiting Angels Jennifer, Patricia, Joann, Doris, and Leeann who were true Angels to our Dad in his final days.
