CHESAPEAKE Mary Elizabeth Groves, 73, of the 1210 Kay Ave. passed away on Monday, January 29, 2018 after her 3rd battle with cancer. She was born on October 14, 1944 in Portsmouth to the late Clinton and Sydney Butler; and was a fabric associate at the College Dr. Wal-Mart in Suffolk. Mary was a member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No 795, who loved sewing, fishing and her beloved pets.
She is survived by her husband, William L. Groves; two daughters, Debby Hutchins and husband Paul and Dana Christmas and wife Teri; a son, Riley Buddy Christmas and Amber; three sisters, Carolyn Mohar, Linda Bush and Cindy Mae Coggsdale; two grandchildren, Teresa and Shane; and a host of extended family and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Friday, February 2, 2018 in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel on Thursday evening from 7 8 PM.
