Virginia Beach- On Wednesday, March 11, 2015, our precious mother passed peacefully on her 90th birthday to complete a full, rich circle. As a family, we have been the recipients of a gracious, caring, and kind woman who remained a stalwart New Englander "steady-as-you-go" through the varied paths of life.
Born in New Haven, CT to Howard and Molly Furnald, Jane moved to Va. Beach as a young bride in 1946. For the next 31 years, she shared her life with husband J. Robert Addenbrook (Bob) and raised her three children: John (deceased), Margaret, and Tom.
Mom was an avid reader, world traveler, gardener, bird watcher, and knitter. She enjoyed taking weekly trips to the farms in Pungo, sharing her skills in gardening in God's rich earth with her two granddaughters, and teaching her grandchildren the value of respecting their elders and loving their family through thick and thin. A retired medical assistant and public stenographer, Mom devoted her life to our family and was a trusted friend to many, all of whom loved that she always spoke her mind in a respectful humorous way.
A graduate of Larson Junior College, Jane was an active member of the Mayflower Society, the Cavalier Garden Club, and Galilee Episcopal Church. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret A. Zontini, and her husband Tony; and her son, Thomas H. Addenbrook, and his wife Viki; and her adoring five grandchildren: Amelia Z. Moran, John A. Zontini and Kyle, Bryce, and Haley Addenbrook, all of whom will miss her greatly. She asked us to love one another and look out for each other. We love you, Mom, that promise is instilled in our hearts.
A celebration of Jane's life will be held sometime this spring with a private burial in the Galilee Church Columbarium. All of us who knew and loved Jane will not be surprised to learn that her final songs will be "It's a Wonderful World" and I did it "My Way" God speed and God bless, Mom. You will always be in our hearts.
Our family would like to acknowledge the unrelenting commitment of Mom's caregivers without whom her life would have been much less momentous.
