Catherine Warner

New Oxford, Catherine Strayer Warner entered into heaven and went home to be with God at 4:40 PM on Sunday January 28, 2018 at The Brethren Home in Cross Keys, surrounded by loved ones and our treasured extended family at The Brethren Home.

She was the widow of her beloved husband Cleaston F. Warner, who preceded her in death July 8, 2009.

After a stroke in January 2016, her family was blessed by God to be able to have their loving mother for 2 years prior to her passing. Her warm, genuine and heartwarmingly gracious persona shined through, indelibly touching all around her in ways that could not have been imagined. Her motherly love radiated to all those around her, strengthening faith in God and the human spirit.

Our mother loved life and especially cherished being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her 6 children, 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Her abiding support of her husband was present at the beginning of their endearing life together, as she supported her husband while he was attending Gettysburg College. Clearly a darling from the outset, she was named 'Sweetheart' of her husband's TKE fraternity in 1951.
Catherine was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Spring Grove since January 1944. She was a former member of Young Women's Club of York and she volunteered at the York Hospital. Besides being a devoted housewife, she was employed at Weis Markets. Our Mother maintained lifelong friends from New Freedom, Glen Rock and Spring Grove school districts.

To the surprising delight of herself and others, she became an avid Bingo player at the Brethren Home.

Born June 20, 1928, in York, Catherine was the precious daughter of the late Ada (Stewart) Strayer and Millard Strayer.

She was predeceased by a brother Millard (Buddy) Strayer and 2 sisters Barbara Strayer and Nancy Strayer. She is survived by her son Steven Warner of York; 5 daughters, Deb Warner of Dover, Cindy Brown and husband, David of Dover, Cherie Flaherty, and husband Paul of York, Dr. Abby Davis, and husband Greg of Champaign, IL, and Libby Warner, and husband Karl White of Palmyra; 2 grandsons, Matt Rodgers and Nathan Rodgers; her granddaughter Kasey Sheffer; five great grandchildren, Clete, Bobby and Henry Rodgers and Sophie and Will Sheffer: her brother Charles Strayer, and his wife Becky of Spring Grove; and many beautiful family members in Maryland.

A funeral service in celebration of her life will be held on Friday at 11:00 am at Nicarrry Meeting at the Brethren Home Community in New Oxford, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford with Pastor Linda Titzell officiating. A viewing will be held on Friday from 10–11 am at Nicarrry Meeting at the Brethren Home. Interment will be held privately by the family at Spring Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to The Good Samaritan Fund at The Brethren Home in New Oxford or St. Paul Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. www.beckfunerals.com
