The Shareholders, Associates and Staff of Pediatric Associates mourn the loss of their longtime leader, colleague, friend and former Chief Executive Officer, Philip A. Levin, M.D., who died October 15, 2010 2010. He was 73. Dr. Levin was instrumental in shaping the delivery of primary pediatric care in the State of Florida. He dedicated his professional career campaigning for equal accessibility to quality health care for all children. Born in Steubenville, Ohio, Dr. Levin graduated from Ohio State Medical School and moved to South Florida in 1965, where he did his residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital. A year after opening a practice in Hollywood, FL, the pediatrician was recruited by competitors Edward Saltzman, M.D., Arnold Tanis, M.D. and Robert Pittell, M.D. to join forces. Along with partner Jed Jacobson, M.D., the five formed Pediatric Associates. A visionary with keen judgment and charisma, Dr. Levin navigated the practice through the changing demographic and healthcare environment of the 1970s. The practice became the nation's largest primary care pediatric practice, currently providing care to infants, children and adolescents in 21 offices from Miami-Dade to St. Lucie county. Dr. Levin practiced pediatric medicine in Hollywood, FL, for more than 30 years. He moved to Palm Beach County in 1996, where he continued seeing patients in the practice's Boynton Beach office, while also serving as the practice's CEO. He retired in August 2009 after being diagnosed with brain cancer. Dedicated to providing medical excellence with integrity and compassion, Dr. Levin will be remembered for his contagious smile and passion for life and the footprint he has left on South Florida pediatric healthcare. He will be sorely missed by his work family and friends and three generations of South Florida families. Dr. Levin is survived by his loving wife, Gloria, his children, Scott (Rhea), Mark , Jennifer (Dan) Boss, Bonnie (Kenny) Baritz, Michael (Leslie) Burman and David Burman and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday. Donations in Dr. Levin's memory can be made to The Philip A. Levin, M.D. Memorial Fund for Pediatric Oncology at Joe Dimaggio Children's Hospital Foundation, 3711 Garfield St. Hollywood, FL 33021.
