He was the son of a Mr. Sinclair and Rebecca Finlayson Sinclair, and was the husband of Sarah Ann Stuart Sinclair.

He was the brother of Daniel F. Sinclair.

According to the Sinclair Genealogy by Julia English Spicer that appears on the Cumberland County, N.C. Gen Web site, Duncan is buried beside his son-in-law, Charles Lockamy, in Kings Cemetery in Laurel Hill, N.C.
