On January 27, 2018, the angels and Dad came to take our mom home. Christine Hansford Spencer was born October 11, 1934, in Hayes, Virginia, but lived the majority of her life in Hampton. At age 16, on September 22, 1951, she married the love of her life, James Malvern Spencer, and cherished every moment of their life together until his death in 2004.

She was always a loving and devoted mother to her 2 children, and was blessed to have her mother, Grace, share in her life for 78 years. She also shared many happy years with her sister Katherine, who passed away in 2015. She always had faith in God and trusted in Him. Her favorite Bible verse was Matthew 17:20. Though she attended a number of churches over the years, her fondest memories were with Northside Church of Christ.

She enjoyed her work as a pharmacy assistant at GEX and in Buckroe, and later making floral arrangements at a local florist. She was an avid mystery reader, loved to work in her flower beds, make silk flower arrangements, and had the patience to put together jigsaw puzzles. She also loved her time spent at Greys Point Family Camp Ground with family and friends.

She will now watch over us from Heaven; her son Jamie Spencer and wife Pam, her daughter Sherry Elberfeld and husband Mike, brothers Grover Edwards and wife Joan, and Epp Edwards and wife Sandie, eight grandchildren, Che, Rachael (Nick), Christy (Adam), Travis, Shannon, Luke, Danielle, and Jeremy; and eight great-grandchildren, Ty, James, Parker, Hannah, Brenna, Phen, Landon, and Addison. They gave her last years great joy and purpose. We will always love her and miss her and hold her in our hearts.

The family will receive friends from 1-2pm Thursday, February 1, 2018 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home with a funeral service beginning at 2PM. Interment will follow in Clark Cemetery.
