Vera Mae Lewis, 92 of Wichita Falls, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018 in Wichita Falls.

Services will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Culwell officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery in Seymour under the direction of Archer Funeral Home, Seymour, Texas.

Vera Mae was born December 3, 1925 in Spring Creek, Texas to Henry and Eula Young Clifton. They took up roots and moved to the Hunt Ranch when she was two years old. She attended a one room school called Self School halfway between Throckmorton and Seymour. Eventually she began 6th grade in Throckmorton and started 9th grade in Seymour when buses finally began to run. She really liked Volleyball and Physical Ed. On Saturdays, she could be found in Seymour walking the square, watching a ‘continuous movie’ at the Ritz or Roy Rogers, Gene Autry movie at the Texan. Sundays were for church and love stories at the Texan where she saw Gone With The Wind.

In 1937, Vera Mae met Raymond Thomas (R.T.) Lewis, Navy. And on November 21, 1944 she married her sailor at the little rock house near to the Rock Inn Café in Seymour. For seventeen years, she was the owner of a quaint, children’s clothing store, Hansel and Gretel. Vera Mae was a volunteer of the Pink Ladies where she had at least 1500 hours of service. She attended the Friendship Sunday School Class and First Baptist Church of Seymour. Other endeavors include: VFW Auxiliary, Blue Bird and Camp Fire Leader, Rebekah’s, and Leader of Theta Roe. She spent her fair share of time at Montgomery Wards, Carnation Plant, GTE, Rock Inn, her sister’s Dairy Mart and her daughter’s store, The Man’s Store. She was preceded in death by her husband, R.T. Lewis in 1996; her parents, Henry and Eula Clifton; her eight-year old son, Teddy Ray in 1953; her grandson Kent in 2017 and the golden girls, i.e. her precious sisters, Jimmie Ann, Bertha Sue and Mollie Pearl.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Treva and Floyd Brown of Wichita Falls and Melinda and Jack Brown of Benbrook; 2 granddaughters, Tammie Trainham of Goree and Monica and Grant Miller of Abilene; 3 grandsons, Kenan and Jesi Kinnibrugh of Seymour, Aaron McNeill of Wichita and Blake and LaShone McNeill of Seymour; great grandchildren, Shea, William, Kaden, Slade, Jaylyn, Christian, Saddler, Annabelle and Reagan; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
