Thomas F. Maher III of Hamden passed away Friday, Jan. 26,2018 at his home. He was born June 18,1925 in West Haven a son of the late Thomas F. and Marjorie Maloney Maher Jr. and had been employed for many years as a clerk with the former New Haven Railroad.Tom was a member of the Knights of Columbus council # 7124, the John Barry Assembly 4th Degree, the Knights of St. Patrick and was a life member of B.P.O.E.#2224, along with many other groups. Tom was a well known performer/singer who organized and ran The Register Fresh Air Fund from 1951, at age 23, until 2013, a 62 year span! Tom had a love of life and he was empowered throughout life by helping others. He also expressed extreme gratitude to Sonny at the Playwright Irish Pub and the folks at Books and Company for years of friendship. He is survived by a sister Mildred O'Heady of NC , a niece Maureen Steiner and her two daughters Alicia Tucker and Jessica Bethke. He was predeceased by his first wife Bernice Davis Maher his second wife Helen McCauley Maher and a nephew Steve O'Heady.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wed. morning in St. Rita Church, Whitney Ave., Hamden. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Haven Register Fresh Air Fund, 100 Gando Dr.,New Haven, CT 06513.,
