Dwight E. Miller, age 97, passed away on January 28, 2018 at Bridge Hospice Health located in Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay, OH. He was born October 14, 1920 in Huntington, IN to the late Donald and Mary Miller. Dwight was raised on a farm. He married his wife, Christine, on December 25, 1941. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Christine in 2005; and his brother, Dean Miller. Dwight leaves behind one son, Jan (Kathy) Miller, of Findlay, OH; four grandchildren, Jeff, Greg, Dennis, and Janelle; and six great-grandchildren, Holden, Sterling, and Janson by Jeff (Katy), Alex and Wyatt by Greg (Stephanie), and Sara by Dennis (Elizabeth).

Dwight served in the US Army in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Following his discharge from the army, he entered the School of Agriculture at Purdue University, graduating in 1952. He moved to South Bend, IN and began his employment with Purdue University as a county extension agent where he served for 10 years as a 4-H agent. In 1962, he transitioned to agriculture where he remained until his retirement in 1981.

During his extension career he served in many capacities. In the mid-1960s, he helped to establish the St. Joseph County Area Plan Commission where he served as a past president. He served on the County Park Board from 1967 to 1981. He also served on the St. Joseph County Soil and Water Conservation District Board for 20 years. He was a twenty-year member of the St. Joseph County Fair Board where he played a major role in the expansion of the fair grounds and construction of the livestock buildings. He held the office of secretary of the 4-H Fair Inc. for 14 years. In 1976, he received the National Association of County Agricultural Agents Distinguished Service Award.

His personal interests included camping and fishing with his family in the Midwest as well as out west. He also enjoyed gardening on his property in St. Joseph County. Dwight was a member of the South Bend Kiwanis Club for 30 years and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lakeville, IN.

Upon the death of his wife in 2005 he moved to Findlay, OH to be closer to his son. Dwight was a member of the American Veterans Post 21 in Findlay, OH. The Miller family wishes to thank Bridge Hospice for their dedicated and professional care of Dwight during his illness.

Funeral services for Dwight will be on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11 AM at Lakeville United Methodist Church with Pastor Brian White officiating. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery in South Bend. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services at the church.
