Lewis Byron Nicolls, long-time Pringle resident, died Thursday, Feb. 25 at Lutheran Hospital in Hot Springs following an illness of flu and pneumonia. Nicolls was born April 18, 1897 at Decatur, Nebr., and moved with his family to Meade County in 1910. He made his home in and near Rapid City until 1921 and then moved 7 miles southwest of Pringle where he since resided.
Services were held Monday afternoon, Feb. 29, at 2 o'clock p.m. at the McColley Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gordon Cary of the Wesleyan Methodist church, Hot Springs, officiating. Organist was Mrs. Donald Scheuer and she accompanied Mrs. Wayne Sheets who sang the hymns, "What A Friend We Have in Jesus", "Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond the Sunset."
Survivors include his wife, Julia, three sons, Robert of Provo, Lee of Pringle and Corbin of Newcastle. Two daughters, Mrs. Vivian Cook, Dewey, and Mrs. Lake Smith, Newcastle, Wyo. He is also survived by four brothers and six sisters. Brothers are Jay Nicolls, Picayune, Miss.; Boyd Nicolls, Diamond Springs, Calif.; Ben Nicolls, Durango, Colo.; Ted Nicolls, Newcastle, Wyo. The sisters include Mrs. Lake Munsil, Boston, Mass; Mrs. Agnes Norgaard, Tyler. Minn.; Mrs. Bessie Youngren, and Mrs. Irene Davis, both of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Iva Burris, Tacoma, Wash., and Mrs. Susan Peterson, Mora, Minn. Ten grandchildren also mourn his loss.
Serving as pallbearers were Merle Boggs, Francis Conlon, Bill Pringle, Howard Drain and Sam Kirk all of Pringle and Erwin Carter, Custer.
Burial was in the Pringle cemetery under the direction of McColley Funeral Home.
