Capt. Edward S. Smith, one of the best know vesselmen on the Great Lakes died August 7, 1916 at a Duluth hospital. He was 60 years old and spent most of those years in the Twin Ports. He worked 40 years on the Great Lakes.

For two years before is death he ran the Tobin's Harbor hotel at Isle Royal. He recently returned to Duluth.

The funeral was August 8, 1916 at Stewart's undertaking rooms and interment in Forest Hill cemetery.

For many years Capt. Smith ran a tug line and then was a captain for the Booth line. He was master of the Str. Easton of the Booth line for many years.

The deceased is survived by his wife and four daughters, Mrs. Shambeay of Isle Royal; Mrs. E. M. Morgan of Minneapolis; Misses Grace and Emily Smith.
