at the Abbot Northwestern Hospital in So. Mpls, MN
Darlene is laid to rest at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery
with her late Beloved Spouse Ed Smith who passed away Oct 17, 2020.
Interment for Ed Smith and Darlene Smith cremains was May 24, 2021.

Darlene was survived by her Spouse of many years Ed Smith.
Darlene Married Ed Smith in Clark Co. Nevada April 15, 1981.
Darlene is also survived by former Spouse Mr. Howe.
Darlene is survived by many Relatives and Friends.
She is survived by her two adult Grandchildren, Cousins,
Nephews, Nieces, two Siblings, In Laws, other Relatives.

Darlene is very loved, very missed and will be remembered in the hearts
of all who loved her forever. Darlene lived in the South Mpls area
much of her life. She lived at 3 points Mound MN area a short time
during the early 1960's. Darlene & Ed Smith purchased a home at 3304 E. 52 St.
So. Mpls. They met when she lived in Mpls MN. They lived in Mpls MN
and worked in Mpls MN. We called their home Darlene's doll house. It was a
beautiful, cozy small home that she and Ed did a lot of work on.
Darlene did much decorating . Darlene and Ed had a wonderful yard and
garden, outdoor patio area. They lived there the rest of Darlene's life.
They lived near relatives and friends. Ed sold the home and moved to an apt after
Darlene passed away. Darlene was preceded in death by her Parents Doris and
Pat Ward , her biological Father, her Sisters Patty and Joyce, her
beloved Sister in Law Georgia and her only Child Linda.
Darlene and our Many Family Members were deeply saddened when
her Beloved Daughter Linda passed away unexpectedly in 2012.
Our Beloved Darlene had been sick for a while before she passed away.
She had taken care of her Beloved Spouse Ed during some rough medical bouts
he had with Cancer. Ed took care of His Beloved Spouse Darlene when she was
ill. Up until Darlene was ill, she was very active. We will always remember Darlene
for her many great qualities. She was an outgoing energetic woman
and enjoyed adventure. Darlene's greatest joy in life was her Spouse,
Daughter Linda, two Grandchildren, Family and Friends.

Darlene was a Retired Employee of Minneapolis Public Schools.
She worked in the Classroom at Anderson School in S. Mpls
many years with Special Education Students. ( near Abbot Hospital
in inner City Mpls. ) Darlene was very gifted working with Children with
behavioral challenges and other Special needs issues.
Darlene and her Siblings attended Adams Elementary School, formerly
at 1530 Franklin Ave S. Mpls . She Minneapolis High Schools,
possibly Mpls Vo Tech. The Native American Center in Mpls MN was built on
the property where Adams School once was. Darlene did attend some
College classes in abt the late 1970's at MCC in Downtown Mpls .
Darlene, her Siblings and our Family had friends from across all cultures
and ethnic groups. Darlene was outgoing and she knew many people.
She loved to talk about some of the very prominent people
she knew from the Mpls area who presented at her College Classes per
her request. In early childhood and some years during adulthood
Darlene grew up at 18Th & Elliot Ave S. and later lived at
1810 10th Ave S. Mpls many years. ( Parents Pat and Doris Ward
purchased the large multi unit 1810 Ave property abt the late 1940's - abt 1950.
Just across the alley from the apts where Darlene and her Siblings grew up. )
Darlene lived in Hennepin County Minnesota all her life.
Darlene resided in Mpls, Henn. Co. most of her life. During her
Marriage to Mr. Howe, Darlene lived in the 3 Points Mound MN area
on a hill up from Lake Minnetonka a while before returning to living in
Mpls MN. They divorced in 1972 and remained friends. Darlene
later married her soulmate Ed Smith in 1981. ) Darlene resided in
Mpls the rest of her life. They renewed their Wedding Vows in 1999.
Our Beloved Darlene was beautiful, smart, outgoing, social, kind,
loving, compassionate, altruistic, talented, witty and a lot of fun to be with.
Darlene was a very verbal extrovert and her Spouse Ed was mild mannered.
Darlene spoke up openly and Ed was a good listener.
They were very much in love and had a great marriage.
Ed got along with with Darlene's former Spouse Mr. Howe.
Their Beloved Dog Toby who they had for many years once
belonged to Mr. Howe. Ed was not a jealous, possessive man.
Darlene was very energetic all her life until she became ill.
She loved to travel, cook, garden, decorate her home.
spend time on the lakes, fancy dinners and dancing,
help others and was always on the go. Top priority to Darlene
was her Family ad Friends. She loved to spend time with Family
and Friends. Darlene adored her Spouse, Daughter Linda and her
two adult Grandchildren. Darlene survived growing up in poverty.
She and her Siblings survived a very rough childhood. Their Loving Mother
Doris worked hard trying to provide the best she could for her children.
Darlene and her Siblings were Blessed when their Father Pat Ward
entered their lives. Pat and Doris were soulmates and wonderful Parents.
Pat loved Darlene and her Siblings as his own. Everyone in our Family
and anyone who knew him adored, loved and respected Grandpa Pat Ward.
Darlene lived in the triplex home Pat and Doris owned many years as a renter.
( Darlene also had two homes during marriages. Sister Patty called Darlene's home
in So. Mpls Darlene's Doll house as Darlene and her Spouse did major renovation and
their home was small yet very beautiful and skillfully decorated. Darlene and her
Spouse were always doing improvements. Darlene's Dad Pat did a lot of carpentry
and helped a lot with repairs too. Darlene was a great hostess. If she invited you
for lunch or dinner she put on a feast fit for royalty and she was an excellent
cook. Doris, Darlene and Darlene's Siblings all learned to be excellent cooks.
( to note: In Darlene's Obituary, Pat was her Dad. In Pat's Obituary, Darlene was his Daughter. Darlene visited her biological Father Robert before he passed away at the So. Mpls Healthcare facility. )
