Valerie Helen Dawson, former longtime resident of Arlington Heights, was born on May 1, 1926 in Chicago to Paul and Valeria (née Langwinas) Pocevich. She died Friday, January 26, 2018 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.
She worked as a Librarian for St. James Catholic Church in Arlington Heights.
Valerie is survived by her children, Steven (Patricia) Dawson, Susan Dawson-Tibbits, Jean Dawson, Janet (Chris) Baumann, Teresa Dawson, and Patricia Dawson; grandchildren, Debra (Aaron) White, Elizabeth Dawson, Christine (Eric) Cavanaugh, Andrew (Heather) Dawson, Gordon (Jennifer) Dawson-Tibbits, and Rebecca (Ryan) Shepherd; great-grandchildren, Aidan, Ethan, Abigail, Morgan, Caitlyn, Amber, Henry, Weston, and Hayes; sisters, Delores (late Lloyd) Daily and Dorothy (Anthony) Serio; cousin, Jim Brotts; sister-in-law, Loretta Connelly; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis "Frank" J. Dawson; her parents; her son, John E. Dawson; and brothers, Paul R. (late Marion) and Richard A. (late Dottie) Pocevich.
Valerie will be sorely missed by her many friends, including those at Friendship Village in Schaumburg.
