Mark Garrett Allen, age 57, of Bowdon experienced that magic hour on January 25, 2018 at his home. He no longer sees through a glass darkly, but face to face. What he has known in part is now fully known (I Cor.13:12)
Mark is described by his family and friends as a visionary, a seeker and defender of truth, a great debater, an empathetic, compassionate soul, a true friend, and a man of strong conviction. His interests were many and well researched – survival skills, weaponry, rock music, politics, pets, history, wood working, old Theologians (old dead guys). He always said he was cursed with a mind he could not turn off. His imagination and hunger for knowledge was unquenchable.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Dera Dingler Allen of Bowdon; their loving son and precious daughter-in-law, Nathaniel and Jordan Allen of Lookout Mountain; brother and wife, Robert and Brenda Allen of Bremen and sister, Claire Allen of Tallapoosa. When he married Dera, April 6, 1986, he was welcomed by and became a member of the Dingler Family. He is, also, survived by his Godly mother-in-law, Marie Dingler of Tallapoosa; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Doak and Virginia Dingler of Suches, Drek and Annette Dingler of Lineville, AL, Dena Dingler of Tallapoosa, Dane and Brenda Dingler of Fruithurst, AL, Dawn and Eddie Cook of Carrollton, Dyla and Tom Corson of Wedowee, AL; sixteen nieces and nephews, twenty great nieces and nephews and several cousins.
Mark’s final steps on this earth were with his dogs Buzz and Copper at his side
Mark is preceded in death by his parents Dorsey and Mary Ruth Allen; his sister, Carole Herren; a niece, Laurie Herren and father-in-law, Bud Dingler.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 12 noon until 2:00 PM.
Services will be Tuesday, January 30 at 2:00 pm from the chapel of Hightower Funeral Home with Reverend Jason Hatchett, Mr. Doak Dingler and Nathaniel Allen officiating. Music will be furnished by Megan Hatchett and Eddie Cook. Johnathan Ward, Terry Ethridge, Sam McClellan, Tommy McClendon, Samuel Corson and Josiah Corson will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in Hollywood Cemetery.
