In the death a few days ago of Robert Todgertell, Douglas County loses one of her oldest settlers, he having located in 1858. At the time he took up a homestead which had valuable timber upon it, and a short time ago he sold part of his land for several thousand dollars. In his old cabin a letter was found which reads as follows: "Am liable to die any time. Getting pretty old now; will be 93 November 18, 1896. Bury me right here and don't have no ceremony. Let old Judge Roberts of Superior appoint an administrator of my estate so what little I have can go where it is needed. I got about $18,000 laid up for a rainy day but I always carried an umbrella so I didn't need it." (S. T. Oct. 31, 1896)
