Ms. Vanessa King age 33 of the Elmwood Community was pronounced dead on arrival Riverview Regional Medical Center E. R. in Carthage at 7:37 a.m. Thursday morning December 15, 2011 after becoming gravely ill at her Massey Hollow Road home.
Sunday afternoon December 18th funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home were conducted at 3 p.m. by Rev. Earl Dirkson and Rev. Jerry Payne. Burial followed in Smith County Memorial Gardens.
One of five children of Hattie Ruth Chowning King of Elmwood and the late James Edward King who died February 22, 2008 at the age of 67, she was born Vanessa Dorchelle King in Carthage on June 4, 1978.
A sister Barbara Lynn King also preceded her in death on February 18, 2007 at the age of 43 as did a niece Kinsley Lynn King who died at the age of 22 on April 9, 2011.
Ms. King had formerly worked at McDonalds in Gordonsville and was a 1996 graduate of Smith County High School.
She was a member of the Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church at Elmwood.
Surviving in addition to her Mother are two children, Justin King of Elmwood, Shantee King of Carthage; sister, Penny King of Elmwood; two brothers, Bruce King of Elmwood and Tracy “Joe Joe” King of Hermitage; uncle, Thomas Chowning of Nashville.
