Mrs. Rosemary Cooper Russell, age 71, of Mt. Vernon, died Thursday, January 18, 2018, in the East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro, after an extended illness. She was a lifelong resident of Mt. Vernon, and was a 1964 graduate of Montgomery High School. She was a graduate of Brewton-Parker College, and attended Georgia Southern University. She retired from Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Power Plant after twenty-eight years as Senior Program Clerk, and was a member of the Women of Georgia Power. Rosemary served two terms on the Mt. Vernon City Council, was former Chairman of the Heritage Festival in Mt. Vernon, and was a former Girl Scout Troop Leader. She was a former member of First United Methodist Church of Mt. Vernon, where she also served as a Sunshine worker, and was currently a member of First United Methodist Church of Reidsville. She enjoyed animals, history, and traveling, and was a community activist. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Rossie Thigpen Cooper.

Mrs. Russell is survived by her daughter, Rachel Russell Sikes and husband Alan; one grandson, Brantley Sikes, all of Reidsville; one sister, Elizabeth Adams and husband Steve of the Springhill Community in Wheeler County; two brothers, Larry Cooper of Mt. Vernon and Randall Cooper and wife Sherri of the McGregor Community; one niece, Laura Adams; one nephew, Michael Adams and wife Becky all of Springhill Community; three great-nephews, and one great-niece.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 20th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Glenn Russell and Reverend Arnie Raj officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
