Taken from an interview done Feb 1985: My full name is Nette Claire Strayer Niceschwander. I was adopted. My real parents were Margaret Niceschwander and Henry Cyrus Strayer. I was raised by my Aunt and Uncle. My dad's sister, Nette Strayer, who married Bruce Niceschwander. You see brother and sister married a brother and sister.
Momma died when I was five and we moved to Franklin, Nebraska. Dad met … well, he married his housekeeper.
I went out to live with my Aunt and Uncle in 1919 for the summer. I didn't want to go back. Henry & Lola lived in western Kansas 35 miles south of Ruelton. There was too many kids. Lola had some from her first marriage and they had some together and I just didn't want to go back. So, I lived with Aunt and Uncle until I was married.
We just went thru the eighth grade and Uncle Bruce was a music teacher. I played the piano and had violin lessons for about two years.
I married Glen Eaton on March 24, 1927 in the Goodland Courthouse, Kansas. We didn't have a big church wedding and built a farm south of Ruelton right away. To this union was born Ellen Laura and Thelma Marie. We moved to Buena Vista in 1934, Grand Junction 1941, Goodland, and Bear Creek 1946. A few years after Glen's death I sold the house and moved to Glendale, Arizona where I resided with my daughter Ellen.
