Linda June (Hipsky) Mellan Hanock, 69, and formerly of Chambersburg, went to be with the Lord at 12:25 a.m. on Monday, January 22, 2018 at The Meadows at Gettysburg. Born March 25, 1948 in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Ivaloe (Howell) Hipsky; and was reared by her maternal grandmother, Marietta (Fair) Chiaras Howell.
She was united in marriage to Dennis J. Hancock in 1996 in Huntingdon. Mr. Hancock preceded her in death on February 15, 2008. She is survived by two children, David Shawn Riggle of CA and Mary Melinda Mellan of Chambersburg; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn Sue Kester.
Mrs. Hancock was of the Lutheran Faith. She was a member of the Juniata College Alumni Association. Mrs. Hancock attended Huntingdon public schools. She later enrolled at Juniata College, Huntingdon, graduating in 1994 with a Bachelor Degree in Social Work. She was employed as the Executive Director at Huntingdon County Information & Referral for a couple of years prior to relocating to Chambersburg in 2005, where she became employed as a Program Specialist at National Health Service (NHS), retiring in 2009. Above all, Mrs. Hancock enjoyed spending with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
At the request of the family there will be no public viewing or visitation. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Interment will be made in Mount Union Cemetery, Mount Union. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in remembrance of Linda J. Hancock may be made to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road, Chambersburg, PA 17201. . Arrangements are under the direction of the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, PA 16652
