He was the son of Luigi Rienzi and Ethel Moore Rienzi Hodson.
On August 11, 1945 as Thomas M. Rienzi, he married Claire Moore at the Star of the Sea Church at Long Branch, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Philip J. Moore.
They were the parents of two children. He was predeceased by his son, Thomas M. Rienzi Jr. (1950-1998).

He was the first permanent Roman Catholic deacon in the State of Hawaii.
