Services for Vernon "Bubba" Sexton, Jr. will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Hilliard Funeral Home with Pastor David "Took" Martin officiating. A graveside service will follow at Fairway Garden of Memories Cemetery in Van. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home.
Vernon Lafitte Sexton, Jr. was born May 31, 1954 in Louisiana. He had been a resident of Mississippi for 5 years, living in Long Beach for the past year. He formerly lived in Gretna, LA, Monroe, LA and Ben Wheeler, TX. Bubba worked as a tug boat captain for many years until his retirement in 2008.
Bubba passed away at the age of 63 on January 21, 2018 in Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon & Edna Sexton; and one brother, Avery Burke.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Judy Sexton of Long Beach, MS; four children, Patricia Brekenfeld of Kiln, MS, Lita Sexton of Richland Hills, TX, Vernon "Trey" Sexton III of D'Iberville, MS and Joshua Sexton of Slidell, LA; one step-son, Gary "Boo" McShan of Long Beach, MS; two sisters, Carolyn Gandy of Ben Wheeler and Ruby Guthrie of Van; brother, Richard Sexton of Van; and seven grandchildren, Zander, Kayla, Chloe, Emma, Dante, Lilly and Shane.
Pallbearers will be Clay Gandy, Dennis Neil Gandy, Ronnie Batie, Drew Mendoza, Ronnie Batie, Jr. and Cash Gandy. Neil Gandy and Nick Gandy will serve as honorary pallbearers.
