Victim of the General Slocum Disaster - age 47 (death cert listings says 27) Death cert # 3856 Bronx, lived at 114 East 4th Street

Aged 27 years, married. Survived the initial mayhem of the General Slocum disaster on 15 June 1904, as per the New
York Herald (1 July 1904.) Developed erysipelas after being rescued by a fireman who struck her a blow to the cheek in an attempt to incapacitate her, as her panic threatened to cause both of them to drown. Died at Lincoln Hospital.

In the New York Herald, as well as in other newspapers, the surname was spelled "Gessman". Name is spelled "Geissman(n)" in the NYC Municipal Deaths database as well as in earlier newspaper lists of the hospitalized.
