Mrs. Gladys Haynes was born on May 29, 1937 in Lascassas, Tennessee to Jimmy Neal Works and Louvenia Martin. She entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Middle TN Medical Center.

At an early age, Gladys accepted Christ Jesus as her Lord and Savior at Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Ridley. She later united with Faith Chapel Original Church of God under the leadership of Elder Dallas Green and the late Dr. Linda A. Kennedy. She was a faithful member until her health failed. She loved her church family dearly.

In 1956, Gladys married Ben Haynes, Jr., her best friend and love of her life. To this union six children were born.

Gladys did not work outside her home, but she worked hard to take care of her family and her friends. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren always filled her home. If Gladys was not at home, she could be found at one of her children’s or grandchildren’s games, school functions, or special events. Because she was a caregiver from the heart, she could always be found at the side of a family member, church member, or friend who was sick to nurse them back to good health. In spite of her very busy days, she took quiet time to watch some of her favorite TV shows such as Wheel of Fortune, Price Is Right, and her Soap Operas. In between her shows, she found a way to call each of her children and grandchildren every day. She truly loved her family and friends.

Gladys was preceded in death by her son, Dennis Haynes; granddaughter, Ashley Brown McKnight; great grandson, Elijah Christopher McKnight; brothers, Jim Henry Knox and Rufus Tigg, and sisters, Diane Spann and Eva Akins.

She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories, devoted husband of 55 years, Ben Haynes, Jr.; children, Denise (Kenneth) Roper, Ben (Wynee) Haynes, III, Linda (Bobby) Brown, Deric (Tonya Scales) Haynes and Darryl Haynes; grandchildren, Kendrick Roper, Kentrell Roper, JaQuinta Haynes, JaLencia Haynes, JaToree Haynes, JaNee Haynes, Lanese Brown, Jacquita Haynes, Mya Haynes, Akia Haynes, Autumn Haynes, Amber Luna, Jeremiah Haynes, Joshua Bryson and Israel Haynes; great grandchildren, Kayleigh Roper, Kamden Roper, Aryana Luna and Ambriah Haynes, Parsha Pitts, Jashailah Haynes, D’Andre Bean and Gift Haynes; adopted great grandchild, Alona Hill; sisters, Annis (Leslie) Smith and Portia (Gary) Hathaway; sisters-in-law, Rosalee Sanford, Lillie Overton and Frances Foster; and a host of other relatives, church members and friends.
